What goes on in a day in the life of a writer? Press releases, newsletters, ad copy, social media calendars and a whole lot of story pitches, most of which never come to fruition when you’re within the parameters of an incredibly narrow niche. Glamorous, right? You wouldn’t believe how long it takes me to formulate a single sentence when every word in a 140 word tweet is crucial.

As I write this, we’re gearing up for Vancouver magazine’s 30th annual Restaurant Awards—the biggest, most extravagant event in our editorial calendar year over year, and it’s a big one for me too. I joined the marketing team last year just as the Restaurant Awards was under way, and I’m taking a much bigger role in coordinating the event this year. Since it’s an anniversary issue too, that means I’ve got a slew of press releases lined up covering everything from the all-star panel of judges to the award categories to the afterparty venue. At the end of the day, I just want to flex my fingers and write about something else.

This blog is my creative outlet. It was born of a FaceTime call with my friend in Wasaga Beach. One day we started talking about starting something together where we could share our love of books, and after that I realized I just need a space where I can let my thoughts flow freely. Books, office styling, food & wine, travel recommendations (this is starting to sound like a Van Mag pitch), it’s all part of my story. If you’re curious about what I do and where my inspiration comes from, you’re welcome to follow along on my journey. I’ll be glad to have the company!
